INTRODUCTION

The saxophone is one of the most versatile wind instruments. How better introduce high school and other young saxophonists to the broad range of studies and performance opportunities open to saxophonists at an institution of higher learning than through an intensive workshop covering the instrument’s diverse styles and techniques, led by the school’s faculty in collaboration with world-renowned performers and teachers?

Saxophone Saturday is presented by the New Century Saxophone Quartet, one of the world’s leading classical saxophone ensembles, with the goal of helping college and university music programs bolster general interest in the saxophone, enhance recruitment, and provide a forum for community outreach.

Saxophone Saturday was first presented at the North Carolina School of the Arts in 1997, and is now an annual event at NCSA. The New Century Saxophone Quartet, along with a roster of outstanding classical, jazz, and popular music saxophonists, can design a Saxophone Saturday program to suit every music program’s needs and take advantage of its special resources and faculty.
